Fire Wardens

 

Notice to Hirers or Users of Orewa Arts and Events Centre

The College Fire Code stipulates that the MAXIMUM number of people the Orewa Arts and Events Centre can accommodate is 800

Fire Wardens are Required
  • A building Warden must be present whenever the Orewa Arts and Events Centre is used. This person is responsible for the Fire Safety procedures being followed.
  • Floor Warden(s) are responsible for evacuating designated areas of the Centre
Number of Occupants Fire Warden Requirements
99 or less occupants 1 Building Warden and 1 Floor Warden
100 to 300 occupants 1 Building Warden and 2 Floor Wardens
300 to 400 occupants 1 Building Warden and 3 Floor Wardens
Over 400 occupants 1 Building Warden and 4 Floor Wardens

 

Duties of Building Warden (prior to using the Orewa Arts and Events Centre)

Appoint Floor Warden(s) from people who will be at your event and fill these names and cell phone numbers onto the Warden Identification Duty Board. Give Floor Warden(s) an emergency vest as ask them to have these on them during your event.

  1. Brief Floor Warden(s) on which area of the Centre they evacuate.
  2. Fill out the Evacuation Board showing which area(s) of the Centre will be occupied.
  3. Identify people at your event who have disabilities and will require assistance during evacuation.
  4. Familiarise yourself with location of Fire Panel (front on Music Suite on Riverside Rd) and the Assembly point (on field west and adjacent to the Centre).
  5. Ensure all access doors are unlocked during your event.
Duties of Floor Warden(s) (prior to using the Orewa Arts and Events Centre)

Be aware of the area(s) of the Centre you are responsible for evacuating.
Familiarise yourself with location of the Assembly point (on field west and adjacent to the Centre).
Receive and keep on you during the event, an emergency vest.
Identify people in your area(s) who have disabilities and will require assistance during evacuation.

Duties of Building Warden (on hearing warning signal)

Co-ordinate the overall evacuation

Upon hearing the alarm:
  1. Put on your identification: Orange emergency vest.
  2. Proceed to your designated reporting point which is FIRE PANEL AT FRONT OF MUSIC SUITE ON RIVERSIDE RD, taking the Evacuation Board with you.
  3. Ensure the Fire Service has been notified by 111 call. Clearly state the premises Orewa College 80 Riverside Rd, Orewa, Hibiscus Coast and the nature of the emergency (fire, alarm sounding etc).
  4. Receive Floor Wardens reports and complete the Evacuation Board.
  5. Make enquiries if no report is received from any warden.
  6. Check list of people with disabilities who may require assistance.
  7. Meet the Fire Service on their arrival and advise them of the evacuation status of the Centre, including the location of any person with disabilities.
Duties of Floor Warden(s) (on hearing warning signal)

To evacuate designated area(s) of the Centre

Upon hearing the alarm:
  1. Put on your identification: Orange emergency vest.
  2. Proceed to the area(s) in the Centre you are responsible for evacuating.
  3. Evacuate all people from your area(s), instructing them to proceed to the Assembly Area (on field west and adjacent to the Centre).
  4. Check that any people with disabilities are assisted.
  5. Notify Building Warden that your area(s) are clear.

NB: All of these steps must be taken even if it is clear it is a false alarm.

Do not return to the Centre until the “All Clear” has been given by the Fire Service.
